Varsity Field Hockey Fall 2022-2023 Try-Outs 2022.
Try–out Information: Tryouts will be from Aug1-3, 2022. (Teams will most likely be decided by Aug 3, however, coaches will take longer if needed.) Click on team files to get the updated try-out and practice times. (not yet available)
Youth Camp is the second week of August along with team building. Two scrimmage will take place the third week. Please plan to vacation prior to Aug. 1. Varsity will play in a Tournament in October in Va Beach Oct. 7-9. Varsity will also practice some Saturdays, especially before a Monday game, as well as holidays.
Try-outs will take place from 6-9 am and an evening session as well, most likely in the 6-8 pm time frame for 1 and 1/2 hours. Do your best to make all sessions. Generally practice times are V: 6:30-9 am with several two-a-days. JV and F 7-9 am time frame but more to come. Once teachers return, practice times will fluctuate. When school starts practices will be after school or in the evening.
Please note that practice times may be changed due to weather or other circumstances.
Where: Washington – Liberty HS. Meet on the turf.
What you need: -A physical as of May 1st, 2022. There is now online registration. (NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO TRY OUT WITHOUT AN UPDATED PHYSICAL) Forms are available via the W-L webpage: Athletic Clearance.PLEASE NOTE: Your completed physical form and permission to play form should be uploaded: (Click Register Athlete) by July 27th.
Insurance information. (The school does offer health insurance. Please see Ms. Callaway.)
-You must have running shoes as well as field hockey gear. -You must have field hockey shin guards (soccer shin guards are ok for try-outs only) and a mouth guard to participate-Please bring plenty of water. Sticks are available.

Evaluations: There will be a 3 mile run. Varsity players should not take longer than 30 min 30 seconds. All will participate. Please condition over the summer. Check the website for green days and conditioning days.
Returning players will be evaluated on:
Strength of pushes and drives, ability to make defensive stops and offensive moves, quickness and decision making, aggressiveness, agility and attitude.
New players will be taught the game and will be evaluated on athletic ability and attitude as well as ability to learn and apply new skills.
Try-outs will begin Monday, Aug 1. That is the beginning of the season. We start scrimmages shortly after. Please plan vacations before that date.
